HASSAN: The Government pre-matric girls’ hostel in Hassan has been deserted after a class 10 student committed suicide in her hostel room recently. Madhurya, a native of Malledevarahalli in Hassan taluk, committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel after returning from an outing with her friends.
According to the police, she allegedly committed suicide after the hostel warden and her parents took her to task for going out without informing. Almost all parents of students rushed to the hostel and picked up their children as the news of suicide spread on Monday. The parents took away their children without informing the warden from Sunday evening.
The district authority suspended Sarojamma, the hostel warden, immediately after the incident came to light. In an official meeting on Monday, ZP CEO Jagadish decided to arrange counselling for parents and children on Wednesday at hostel premises to rebuild confidence among the students and the parents. The officials have also decided to depute a female supervisor to each room to build confidence among students in this regard. Madhurya left the hostel on April 16 and returned on 19th. She committed suicide on June 21.
