MANDYA: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly disrobed and beaten up, by four persons a family including a woman, outside her house at Mardipura in Dudda hobli in the district recently. The woman had to face the wrath of the accused for the simmering land dispute between them that erupted especially after she bought a piece of land belonging to one of the accused persons.

In her complaint to Shivalli police, Sanna Bettamma, wife of late Ningaiah, the victim has alleged that “Swamy and his wife Gowramma and their children Madhukumar and Manu also from the same village, assaulted her after tying her to a pole outside the house. They were infuriated for tilling a piece of land 0.10.1/4 gunta (survey no 14/1 at Narasipurada Koppal, Dudda hobli) which she had purchased from their relative Boramma for Rs 50,000 and was also registered in July 2008.”

Narrating the ordeal she went trough on February 7, Sanna Bettamma said: “I was on foot near my house when Swamy and three others stopped me only to question about taking up agricultural activities in the said land.

When I reminded them about giving Rs 50,000 through the village elders towards buying the property, Swamy who was already drunk pulled off my saree and tied me to a pole. He also tore my jacket only to insult me in public. He later hit me with a stone on my forehead and shoulder, while Madhukumar assaulted with a club. Gowramma hurled abuses and Manu kicked on my abdomen.” Sanna Bettamma, who was treated as an outpatient at the hospital, provided a copy of the same along with the documents related  to the land.
