On the occasion of Jain Acharya Tulasi’s centenary birth anniversary celebrations, a cheque of Rs 5 lakh was presented to the Chief Minister for the purpose of helping the education of financially weak children on Sunday.

Siddaramaiah said that the religion and caste were secondary to being good human beings. “God does not take applications from people who want to be born in a particular religion. Everyone must first be a good human being and this is what we can learn from Acharya Tulasi,” he said.

He also flagged off a ‘Anuyatra’ bus which will travel 9,000 km around Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Goa before reaching Delhi after six months. The bus will seek to spread the message of Acharya Tulasi’s teachings and will halt for 10-12 days in each place. “Twelve members will travel with the bus in order to teach Acharya’s code of life,” said B V Chandrashekar, an organiser of the yatra.

Narrow Escape for Devotees

Devotees had a narrow escape as a giant LED screen mounted at Freedom park for the celebration of 100th birth anniversary of Acharya Tulasi crashed onto the stage. The incident happened allegedly due to the negligence of the organisers. However, no damage was reported. Technicians cleared the area and made alternate arrangements.
