CM, KPCC Prez Meet Regional Satraps

In their bid to shortlist the party’s probable candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara held a day-long interactions with Congress leaders from Gulbarga and Mysore divisions here on Sunday.

The interactions will continue on Monday in which the two leaders will take note of the opinions of the party’s current and former MLAs and MPs, DCC presidents and ZP chiefs from Bangalore and Belgaum divisions.

According to party sources, the Chief Minister and the KPCC president summoned every legislator from Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir districts in the morning at the KPCC office and held brainstorming meetings with the local leaders to elicit their opinions in choosing the party’s nominees.

In the afternoon, the Chief Minister and the KPCC chief held a similar exercise with leaders from Mysore, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Chamarajnagara, Mandya, Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Leaders including ministers Ambareesh, Sharana Prakash Patil, Qamarul Islam, P T Parameshwara Naik, Shivaraj Thangadagi and  Abhayachandra Jain and MPs Vinayakumar Sorake, Jayaprakash Hegde and Ramya met Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara.

According to party sources, Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara had one-to-one meetings with the party leaders and asked them to suggest preferential names to contest the Lok Sabha elections and also the reasons for their recommendations. The Chief Minister and the KPCC president, after completing the consultations, are expected to visit New Delhi on Thursday and submit their report.

During their exercise, the duo also asked the local leaders about the party’s weak points at the local levels and corrective measures that should be taken.

Former KPCC president Janardhana Poojary reportedly conveyed his inclination to fight from the Mangalore Lok Sabha seat where he had tasted successive defeats.

Allam Veerabhadrappa, another former KPCC president also met the leaders along with the local leaders from Bellary district.
