Patting his own back, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Election Commission is able to hold polls in the state in one phase as the law and order situation is satisfactory.

At an election rally at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose stadium here on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah said his government had improved the law and order situation, which hit rock bottom during the BJP rule, within a short span of 11 months.

He warned that anyone attempting to disturb peace in the name of Hindutva in coastal and Malnad districts would be dealt with sternly.

There are schools in Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Mangalore and Udupi districts which are experimenting with Hindutva, he claimed. He asked BJP leader C T Ravi what moral right he has to speak on Hindutva and culture when his party ministers are tainted.

“Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was in jail for 24 days, which is a record in state politics. During a debate on the drought situation in the Assembly, three (BJP) ministers were caught on camera watching porn clips. Is this culture?” he said.

Hitting out at BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his statement that corruption is in Congress DNA, the CM said he (Modi) has no moral right to speak about corruption when he has Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje by his side in Chikmagalur.

Modi’s promises of constructing a Ram temple, introducing uniform civil code and bringing back black money stashed in foreign banks are all empty promises. “It is only a conspiracy to garner votes by charging up Hindu sentiments,” Siddaramaiah alleged.
