A day after JD (S) asked its legislators to call off their South American ‘study tour,’ KPCC president G Parameshwara wrote a letter to Chief Minister to cancel the 15-day trip on Saturday. In the letter, he said that such a tour is not proper at a time when 100 taluks are reeling under drought.

On the sidelines of the 128th Foundation Day of the Congress party, Parameshwara told reporters that the immediate need is to take up relief works in drought-prone areas.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah said that a final decision on the tour will be taken in the next couple of days after a meeting with presiding officers of both the Houses of legislature.

He said that only the Speaker can have a final say on the issue. Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa is out of Bangalore and is expected to return in a day or two.

Thimmappa has already said that he did not want to take a unilateral decision and has decided to convene a meeting of the board comprising Council Chairman and Floor Leaders of both the Houses.
