More than 200 students and young achievers from across 29 states participated in an idea-brainstorming session with the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi in Bangalore on Saturday.

The event was called ‘Your Voice, Our Pledge’, and took place on Palace Grounds.

Rahul Gandhi, who was accompanied by a convoy of 29 vehicles, spent more than two hours with young people from Karnataka, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, UP, Rajashthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi. The participants spoke on various issues, from education reforms to women’s empowerment.

Aamer Javeed, national secretary, National Students Union of India (NSUI), told Express his organisation had handpicked 225 young people for the interaction. About 30 were from Karnataka.

“We made sure they were non-political. We wanted their views and opinions to prepare a manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections,” he said. Arvind Jain, a Bangalore-based techie, was excited to see national leaders. “It is good that they chose us for our opinion. But some of us felt it was more of a grievance meet than an interactive session,” he told Express.

Basanti, a soft-skill trainer from Bangalore, was glad the meeting had not acquired any overt political colour. “When they invited us, I thought they would use us for their agenda. Instead, they wanted us to speak,” she said.
