Pranavananda, a self-proclaimed swamiji, on Saturday attempted self-immolation in protest against televangelist Benny Hinn’s proposed visit to Bangalore.

Pranavananda, who was holding a dharana at Mini Vidhana Soudha since morning, suddenly doused himself with kerosene. However, he was stopped by the police and admitted to KIMS Hospital here.

Police have booked a case against Pranavananda under section 309 of IPC. All those who accompanied the swamiji during his strike have also been arrested.

Police Commissioner Ravindra Prasad termed Pranavananda’s act as a publicity stunt and said steps would be taken for his externment.
