Supporting BMTC’s Bus Day initiative, Congress candidate from Bangalore South Nandan Nilekani on Friday travelled by bus and interacted with commuters.

Nilekani, who is also the richest candidate in fray, was the chairman of the Bangalore Agenda Task Force.

Nilekani boarded the bus at Jayanagar and travelled upto Indira Gandhi Circle in JP Nagar. BMTC observes Bus Day on the first Friday of every month to promote use of public transport.

Nilekani said: “I think Bus Day is a great effort to draw attention to public transport services. Making our bus and Metro systems efficient and able to support Bangalore’s growing population is important for our city.”

During his 20-minute ride, Nilekani sought the experience of his co-passengers in using public transport. Later, he told reporters that he had received an overwhelming response and it was a nice experience.

Reacting to the criticism of Ananth Kumar, his BJP rival, that he (Nilekani) has been carrying the baggage of the Congress, he said: “I have a clear conscience. But the baggage that Ananth Kumar is carrying is his own and it’s very heavy.”  Taking a cue from Nilekani, Congress candidate from Bangalore Central Rizwan Arshad also boarded a BMTC bus and interacted with passengers.

Rizwan also participated in a programme at the Press Club where a social media campaign was launched by a group called ‘Friends of    Rizwan’.
