Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday defended the BJP’s understanding with the JD(S), and said that the BJP took the decision only to defeat the Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha and Legislative  Council byelections.

He told reporters that the people are frustrated with the hasty decisions of the new Congress government and are waiting to teach it a lesson. He asked the Congress government to continue the popular schemes announced by the BJP government in the interest of the poor and downtrodden.

“Why did the Congress high command form a Coordination Committee, though a single party is in power? It was formed to end the rift among senior Congress leaders,” he claimed. He said that the government has failed to meet the expectations of the public in undertaking development works in the state.  He added that the Congress has no moral right to criticise BJP leaders as its senior leaders are involved in a series scams.

BSY’s Return

He also said that the BJP high command will take the final call on the re-entry of B S Yeddyurappa, adding that no BJP member is opposed to his return. We will win all the Legislative Council seats, he said. He added that he was unaware of any discussions between Yeddyurappa and Congress leader D K Shivakumar.

District BJP president Renukumar, former HUDA president Navile Annappa and BJP leader Nagesh were present.

Later Shettar inaugurated a dining hall  constructed by Guru Basavamahamane Mutt at Lingapura in Belur taluk.

He said he is ready to challenge the issue in the court.

He said: “I have never indulged in caste politics and have treated all people equally.”

He was speaking after holding a roadshow at Malavalli in Tumkur on Sunday.

He asked people to vote for the JD(S) candidates in Mandya and Bangalore Rural in the Lok Sabha
