Panic struck the family of former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath on Tuesday when his 78-year-old father J K Chandrashekhar went missing for nearly three hours.

The police, who sprang into action, traced Chandrashekhar soon.

The incident occurred when Chandrashekhar along with his nephew Vijay and a driver had been to Devaraja Market around 9 am. As the vehicle approached the market, the septuagenarian got down while the driver and Vijay moved on to park the vehicle. When they returned, Chandrashekar was not found. Following frantic search in the market and on Sayyaji Rao Road, a complaint was lodged with the Devaraja police station.

Police deployed Garuda and PCR vans to trace him, besides circulating his photographs in all the police stations and television channels. The family members were on board police vehicles.

His brother Mohan Ram, who was in one such police van, traced him near Jayanagar Railway Crossing, about 3-km away from the market, around 12 noon.

Devaraja police inspector Kantharaju said Chandrashekar, who is suffering from memory loss, might have been on his way back home in Kuvempunagar when he was traced.

Javagal Srinath was out of state when the incident occurred.
