PATHANAMTHITTA: Preparations have been completed for the Sreemad Devi Bhagavatha Sathram, the first-ever spiritual event on Sreemad Devi Bhagavatham, will be held at Pandalam Thonnallur Pattupurackavu Devi temple from April 28 to May 7.
The sathram would begin with the installation of the idol by Bhagavatham Hamsam Malliyoor Sankaran Nampoothiri at 4.10 p.m. on April 28.
Guruvayur Thantri Chennas Dineshan Nampoothiri will light the “Bhadreadeepam” on the occasion.
Talking to ‘Express’, sathram committee chairman Pandalam Sivankutty said that the procession carrying the idol, to be installed at the sathram venue, from Chottanikara Devi temple would set off its journey at 8 a.m. on April 25.
Devaswom Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran would inaugurate the procession.
Sivankutty said that the procession carrying the Devi Bhagavatham, to be recited at the sathram, would be taken out from Chettikulngara Devi temple at 10 a.m. on April 26.
“The flagmast and flag procession would be taken out from Malayalappuzha Devi temple at 10 a.m. on April 27,” Sivankutty said.
He said that all the processions, including those from Chottanikara, Chettikulangara and Malayalappuzha, would reach Kurampala Puthenkavil Bhagavathi temple at at 12 noon.
The combined procession would leave the Puthenkavil temple at 2.30 p.m. for sathram venue.
The combined procession would be accorded a traditional reception at 3.30 p.m. at Pandalam Junction
Caparisoned elephants, thalapoli, panchavadyam, pancharimelam, nadaswaram and chendamelam would lead the procession from Pandalam Junction to the Sathram venue.
Free food to devotees: Sivankutty said that free food would be distributed to all devotees who participate in the 10-day sathram.
Various committees were set up for the smooth conduct of the Sathram.
Make-shift auditorium: Sivankutty said that a make-shift auditorium to accommodate 5,000 devotees at a time had already been completed.
As part of the sathram, the 12 participant karas in Pandalam conducted “kalavaranira” ritual on Saturday by contributing food items for the preparation of sadya during sathram days.
