KOCHI: "Any technology that is cost-effective and benefits the poor should be encouraged," Social Welfare Minister Dr M K Muneer has said.

At the inauguration of the first annual international conference on 'Society, Technology and Sustainable Development,' Muneer said that clean potable water, good health system and safe housing still remain a dream for many.

Technology that brings solutions to these issues is the need of the hour.

In his keynote address, Shanti Kumar Nair, Dean of Research, Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham, said that nano technology could bring cost-effective products to the poor.
