Accelerating the group war in the Congress party, the ‘I’ group activists in the district convened a meeting in Changanassery on Monday to express their support to K Sudhakaran, who has courted controversy over threatening a police Sub-inspector recently.
The meeting held at the Travellers’ Bungalow in Changanassery demanded to protect the interests of the Congress activists.
While the meeting held at Kottayam predominantly discussed organisational issues, the Changanassery meet showered severe criticism against Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
The meeting observed that Sudhakaran alone could step in to protect their interests.
“The stance taken by Sudhakaran on the Valapattanam incident was fair and just. If a government led by the Congress fails to protect our interests, who can ensure justice to us?” the meeting observed.
They also congratulated him for initiating steps to protect the reputation of Congress workers.
Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was criticised for not supporting Congress workers. A senior ‘I’ group member said that the majority of the police officials were recruited by the previous LDF government, and they are loyal to the Left politicians. “We cannot expect justice from them,” he opined.
The meeting, which started at 11 am on Monday, spanned over an hour. Various issues related to the Youth Congress organisational elections were also discussed.
District Congress Committee general secretary P S Raghuram presided over the meeting which was inaugurated by Congress leader Sooranad Rajasekharan.
KPCC secretary Josy Sebastian, former Youth Congress state general secretary Ajis Ben Mathews and around 50 ‘I’ group activists attended the meeting.
The meeting held at the Kottayam Public Library Hall was attended by KPCC general secretary and AICC member Joseph Vazhakkan, INTUC district president Philip Augustine, P S Raghuram, Josy Sebastian and other district leaders of the ‘I’ group.
Around 70 Congress workers reportedly attended the meeting.
