Trial in Paul Muthoot murder case begins

Binu, who turned approver in the Paul M George murder case, on Monday gave statements against Satheesh Kumar alias Kari Satheesh and Sathar at the CBI court here. He told the court that there were blood stains on the clothes of the two.

Binu also told the court that he saw Kari Satheesh handing over the knife to another accused Abi after washing the blood stains. The examination of witnesses in the case began on Monday.  The commencement of trial in the case was delayed indefinitely as the accused persons failed to appear before the court every time the reading out of charge sheet was scheduled. The charge sheet was read out to the accused in September.

The case was registered by the CBI on January 29, 2010 as per the directive of the High Court. Two separate charge sheets have been filed in the case. The first charge sheet is for offences of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting and criminal intimidation.

Jayachandran, Satheesh Kumar alias Kari Satheesh, Satar, Sujith Kumar, Prakash, Akash Sashidharan alias Rajesh, Satheesh Kumar, Rajeev Kumar, Shino Paul alias Shino, Sulfikar, Faisal, Shabeer and Hassan Santhoshkumar have been listed as accused in the first charge sheet.

The second charge sheet for the offence of murder of Paul and destruction of evidence are against Jayachandran, Satheesh Kumar alias Kari Satheesh, Satar, Sujith, Akash Sashidharan alias Rajesh, Satheesh Kumar, Rajeev Kumar, Shino Paul alias Shino, Faisal, Abi, Riyas, Siddique, Esmail and Aneesh.

As per the charge sheet, the first accused Jayachandran, a goonda leader from Changanacherry, and second accused Kari Satheesh had stabbed Paul on the fateful day following sudden provocation.
