In a major development that will boost the homestay business in the state, the Electricity Regulatory Commission has handed over the order to implement domestic power tariff for the homestays in the state to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). This was revealed by the Tariff and Regulatory Affairs Cell after an RTI was filed by the Kerala Homestay and Tourism Society director M P Sivadathan. The power tariff hike and the imposing of luxury tax dampened the prospects of the industry, said Kerala HATS officials.
A memorandum has been submitted to Chief Minister, Power and Tourism Ministers seeking to revoke the decision to hike tariff.
