Chiranjeevi to open Thrissur Pooram exhibition today

The cultural capital will be in a jubilant mood from Monday with the opening of the 50th renowned ‘Thrissur Pooram Exhibition’, being organised by the Pramekkavu and Thiruvambadi Devaswoms.

The cultural capital will be in a jubilant mood from Monday with the opening of the 50th renowned ‘Thrissur Pooram Exhibition’, being organised by the Pramekkavu and Thiruvambadi Devaswoms.

The national-level industrial, educational and cultural exhibition will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi at Thekkinkad Maidan, in a function to be presided over by Minister for Cooperation C N Balakrishnan. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, office-bearers of the Exhibition Organising Committee said that over 170 stalls and 60 pavilions will be set up this year. Ten new stalls by various Central and state government agencies will be an attraction.  Hindustan Newsprint Ltd, All India Radio, Pollution Control Board, BEL, BEML, HMT, BPCL, Kerala Khadi Industries Association, Veterinary University, and HAL are the new entrants to the pooram exhibition.

Besides, the BSNL, Kerala Police, ISRO, Food Corporation of India, Indian Railways, Kerala Agricultural University, IT Department, Coir Board, Coconut Development Board, BHEL, DAVP, Oushadhi, Forest Department, Excise Department, Industries Department and the KSEB ag pavilions atre some of the institutions will be taking part in the exhibition.

Jubilee Mission Medical College will set up a pavilion on ‘Health and Medicine’ at the venue. The exhibition will be open from 10 am  to 9 pm, and tickets are priced at `10 each, except on the Pooram day. Several amusement rides for children are in the offing as part of the exhibition which will continue well after the Pooram, to be held this year on April 22 and 23.
