Chandy, VS Mourn Mandela's Death

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy condoled the death of iconic South African leader Nelson Mandela and observed that the inspiration he embodied for all those across the world who stood by democratic values and humanism would continue for ever.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy condoled the death of iconic South African leader Nelson Mandela and observed that the inspiration he embodied for all those across the world who stood by democratic values and humanism would continue for ever.

“The unparalleled, historical struggle that Mandela spearheaded against racism, poverty and inequality, while upholding Gandhian values, led him to become the first person from the black community to become the President of South Africa,” Chandy said in his condolence message.

‘A Great Fighter’

Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has condoled the death of South African leader Nelson Mandela.

In a condolence message issued here on Friday, he said that Nelson Mandela was a great leader  who had given wings to the dreams of the blacks and oppressed people. Mandela dedicated his life for the liberation of the oppressed and spent 27 years of his life in jail and faced all hardships to   liberate oppressed human beings, VS said.

A great fighter throughout his life, Mandela stood for realising the dreams of humanity, he said.
