Cricketer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth began a new innings in his life by tying the knot with Bhuvneshwari Kumari Shikawath, a jewellery designer and a member of a royal family in Jaipur.

The wedding ceremony was held at the Sree Krishna Temple here at 7.45 am on Thursday.

The couple had been in a six-year-long relationship after they first met during an ODI match against Pakistan at Jaipur on November 18, 2007.

Sree’s father Shanthakumaran Nair, mother Savithri Devi, sisters Niveditha and Viditha, brother Deepu Shantan, his wife Kalpana, along with the cricketer’s brothers-in-law play back singer Madhu Balakrishnanan and captain Sajith were present.

The ceremony was held at the first ‘Mandapam’ in the eastern entrance of the temple. Bhuvneshwari’s father Hirendra Singh Shikawath and mother Muktha Singh, along with more than 50 relatives from Rajasthan, were also present during the 10-minute-long wedding ceremony.

Sreesanth was dressed up in traditional Kerala attire and the bride wore a silk saree with designs of mural paintings. The Guruvayur police had a tough time controlling hundreds of people, who had filled the roofed pathway of the temple at the eastern and southern entrance at the time of the wedding.

Both the bride and the bridegroom along with their relatives, who stayed overnight at a hotel in Guruvayur, offered prayers at the idol standing in the entrance of the temple both before and after the wedding ceremony.

Guruvayur Devaswom Board managing committee chairman T V Chandra Mohan and other managing committee members were also present. By 8.30 am, the couple left Guruvayur for Kothamangalam, where Sreesanth’s ancestral home is situated.
