The bus fare revision committee has recommended a minimum fare of Rs 7 in the state.
The panel, headed by Justice M Ramachandran, which went into various issues related to the public transport sector,has also recommended a 5 paise increase in the per km running rate.
The next Cabinet meet is likely to approve the recommendations.
The panel report was submitted to Transport minister Aryadan Mohammed on Thursday.
Incidentally,the report is silent on correction of anomalies in the fare stage,which is siphoning off short distance commuters in a big way. The committee has taken the stand that such things come under the domain of the Motor Vehicles department.
The report says that the minimum fare and per km increase for fast,superfast and deluxe buses can be increased proportionately.
The bus fares were increased last in September 2012. The Bus Operators Federation was demanding a minimum fare of `8.
