Two persons were killed and 45 others injured when a bus rammed into a goods-laden lorry on the Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway-212 at Kolavayal, near here, early Tuesday morning. The drivers of both the vehicles were reportedly killed on the spot. The deceased were identified as lorry driver Manu, 24, s/o Puthanpurakkal George of Malankara, Nenmeni, and bus driver C K Shahil, 30, s/o Chenattukuzhi Yousuf of Arappatta, Meppadi.
Two of the injured have been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College while the rest are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kalpetta. Their condition is said to be stable.
It took about an hour for the Fire and Rescue Services personnel and the local people to take out the bus driver from the mangled cabin. The incident took place around 6 am.
