Leaders without character are a bane of the nation, said Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. He was inaugurating the 38th state annual conference of Balagokulam at Kochi on Sunday.

He said that the education sector was completely neglected leading to the deterioration of the nation.

“Irrespective of any religion, the country has a tradition and culture. But that has been neglected. A nation that cannot learn from its past cannot survive,” he said.

The Minister said that the main aim of education is to create awareness among children on the glorious past of the country.

Raju Narayanaswami, Secretary, Department of Sainik Welfare, Kerala, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the prime duty of education is to mould a generation who can worship his work and respect the sons of soil. Manohar Parrikar  presented  the Akhila Bharathiya Sahitya Samman to poet Ramesan Nair. N Sreekumar, V Harikumar, and M A Krishnan spoke on the occasion.
