CPI state secretary Pannian Ravindran told Express that, as of now, the main slogan of the LDF was removal of Chandy and the reason for this stand is well-known to everyone in the state. Now, it is the UDF’s turn to find a substitute for Chandy, he added.
“When we demand the removal of Chandy as chief minister, it does not necessarily mean that we are for forming a government by encouraging horse-trading. We don’t want to topple the government through illegal means. And there is no collective decision to initiate steps in this regard. But we have always been saying that if the government falls due to its own intricacies, the Opposition should play its constitutional role,” he clarified. Asked about his praising Mani as a better choice to replace Chandy, Pannian said, “I said Chandy is hated by the people and Mani has not invited their wrath yet”.
He also revealed that despite media reports about the LDF overtures to Mani, no discussion was held with any UDF constituent in this regard yet. Earlier, Pinarayi Vijayan also emphatically denied that they had offered the chief minister post to Mani. However, the next meeting of the LDF would take stock of the situation and evolve strategies to mount further pressure on Chandy.
