Police to seek custody of tormentors

The Kumily police will appeal for the custody of Shareef, 27, and his second wife Aleesha in connection with the alleged torture of Shareef’s five-yearold son, Shafeeq, before the JFCM court II in Peermade on Saturday.

The police are searching for more clues into the torture of Shafeeq by his father Shareef and stepmother Aleesha.

Kattappana DySP M N Ramesh told ‘Express’ that the police suspect that more persons are involved in torturing the child and it will be revealed only on sustained interrogation of the couple. Shareef also has a six-yearold son from his first wife while Aleesha has a sevenyear- old daughter from her first husband who are admitted in an orphanage in Muvattupuzha. Interestingly, the police have not questioned these two children.

Experts say that the police are wasting time by not collecting evidence from the children. However, Ramesh said that the children will be approached later as the help of child activists are required.
