BJP to raise solar scam at national level

The BJP will raise the solar scam at  national level to corner the Congress party for diverting the Central subsidy meant for Solar power projects, BJP national spokesman Prakash Javadekar said here.

Addressing a ‘meet-the-press’ programme on Monday, he said that in the Solar scam, the  real issue was the diversion of Central subsidy meant for promoting solar projects.

The BJP national spokesman said that the State Government had lost even the sense of proportion of corruption.

“Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is justifying corruption. He is claiming that the scam involved an amount of only ` 10 crore. Corruption is corruption. How can it be differentiated,’’ he asked.

Javadekar said that the Congress party should not forget that the Bofors scam amounting to just `64 crore had cost the party dearly. The people punished the Congress by keeping it out of power for 10 years. ‘’The people will not let you go whether it is `10 crore or `10,000 crore,’’ he said.

Javedekar said while Gujarat makes currency out of solar power, Kerala creates corruption out of it.

“If Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was not involved in the scam, why did five of the Chief Minister’s office staff had to go,?’’ he asked. He said that more scams would   continue to haunt the UDF Government. Already, the scam involving 108 Ambulance service, in which a Central Minister’s son is involved, has already been brought to light, Javadekar said.

He criticised the government for blaming the media for exposing the scam. “The media made a laudable effort in bringing out the truth. Corruption had become the characteristic or character of the Congress party,” the BJP spokesman said.
