Bid to record statement in jail flayed

Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Sunday said that the direction to solar panel scandal accused Saritha S Nair to record her statement in the presence of a police official or jailer would not help in bringing out the truth, but would only bring the judiciary under a cloud.

“The ACJM court which heard the confidential statement of Saritha for about 20  minutes asked her to submit the same in writing. The magistrate also directed her not to make the statement public before submitting the written document,’’ Achuthanandan said.

‘’Saritha’s advocate later told mediapersons that she had handed over a twenty-page statement to him. But, the magistrate now says that Saritha didn’t tell him anything while making the confidential statement,’’ he said. Achuthanandan urged the High Court to probe the efforts to “sabotage’’ Saritha’s statement.
