The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the state government to produce intelligence reports that warned of attacks on the Chief Minister in Kannur.
Justice Thomas P Joseph issued the directive while considering the bail pleas of three accused -- sixth accused M Kunhiraman, Kannur district panchayat member; 14th accused K Muraleedharan, Thaliparambu municipal vice-chairman, and 18th accused T Raghavan of Kannur.
When the court asked Director-General of Prosecution T Asaf Ali whether there was any intelligence report on any possible attack on Oommen Chandy, the DGP replied that there was intelligence report and the police had provided adequate protection to the Chief Minister. Hence, the court told the DGP to get details of the report. The DGP submitted that the Kannur police registered cases against 94 persons who were present at the place where the incident occurred on October 27.
The CM had sustained injury on his forehead as his vehicle, speeding past LDF workers waving black flags at him, was pelted with stones. The court observed that just because persons were present there, it cannot be said that they had pelted stones at the CM.
The court asked the DGP whether that incident had any connection with the throwing of stones at the Chief Minister. It asked whether any case was registered in connection with that incident and it wanted to know about a person seen in visuals hurling stones.The court asked whether was there any securityman in the Chief Minister’s vehicle.
