The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the LDF in the state on Monday to protest against the Union Government’s decision to implement the Kasthurirangan report was near-total and by and large peaceful.

Normal life was affected as public and private vehicles kept off the road.  Attendance in government offices was thin and commercial establishments remained closed.

In Pathanamthitta district, Ayyappa devotees  had a tough time in finding food as hotels were closed. KSRTC plied buses to Pampa.

At Kottayam, the Ayyappa devotees who arrived by train were provided KSRTC buses to go to Pampa.  Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said some devotees were attacked by hartal supporters at Kakkanad in Ernakulam.
