Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, who celebrated his 90th birthday here on Sunday, resolved to continue his ‘crusade against corruption’.

The veteran CPM leader had a modest celebration marked by a cake-cutting ceremony and a traditional sumptuous ‘sadya’ at his official residence- Cantonment House. ‘Payasam’ was also distributed to those who came to greet him on his birthday.

The leader who cut the birthday cake offered the first piece to his grandson and then to his wife Vasumathi.

Relatives, friends, party leaders and a huge media posse were present on the occasion. Later, he told mediapersons that he would continue his fight against corruption and the State Government’s anti-people policies. He stated that his party would stick to its demand for a judicial probe into the solar scam and the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

“The Chief Minister, along with Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair, had perpetrated a huge fraud.

Instead of facing a judicial probe, he is now engaged in destroying the evidence in the case,” Achuthanandan alleged.
