Government shielding guilty cops: Nambi Narayanan

Former ISRO scientist S Nambi Narayanan on Friday submitted before the Kerala High Court that the state government is trying to shield police officials who had committed criminal activities in the eyes of the law.

In an additional affidavit, Narayanan submitted that the state is protecting the wrongdoers as found by the CBI and is still victimising him.

The former scientist moved the court seeking initiation of criminal action against former Deputy Inspector General (Crime) and now State Chief Information Commissioner Siby Mathews, former Circle Inspector (Special Branch) S Vijayan and former Superintendent of Police K K Joshua, who had conducted the initial investigation in the ISRO espionage case.

He submitted that the unsigned report of the CBI on the ISRO espionage case, which recommended action against the officials, was treated with approval and respect by the government and explanations were sought from the officials.

The present objection of the state saying that it was an unsigned report and lacked recommendation of the CBI has come only as an after-thought for rendering undue help to the police officials who committed criminal activities in the making of a ‘false’ ISRO espionage case. The state took the route of issuing an executive order by withdrawing their consent to the CBI and attempted to re-investigate/ further investigate the case. However, the attempt of the state was quashed by the Supreme Court.
