Thiruvabharanam Procession to Begin on Sunday

The ‘Thiruvabharanam’ procession, carrying the attire in gold to be adorned on the idol of Lord Ayyappa during Makaravilakku rituals on January 14 will begin from Pandalam Valiyakoickal Sree Dharma Sastha temple on January 12.
The Thiruvabharanam, kept in three sandalwood boxes, will be carried on head by a traditional 12-member team led by Kulathinal Gangadharan Pillai and Pratapan. The three-day procession will leave Pandalam Valiyakoickal temple at 1 pm after witnessing a golden eagle in the sky above the temple. A 12-member devaswom team led by special officer Baiju and S Ajithkumar will be in-charge and custodians of the Thiruvabharanam up to Sabarimala. An armed police team headed by Pathanamthitta AR camp assistant commandant will give security cover to the procession. The procession, after a gap of decades, will make its journey along the traditional route. The devaswom authorities have given the green signal for this.
After leaving Pandalam, the procession will reach Kulanada Devi temple through the road passing by Kaippuzha Sreekrishnaswami temple. After leaving Kulanada temple, the procession will reach Ullannoor temple via the traditional path of Mudappana and Kallumparathu Junction. At Ullannoor, the Thiruvabharanam boxes will be kept open for darsan to the devotees till 3 pm.
Leaving Ullannur temple, the procession will take the traditional route through Karikara Junction and Parayankara Junction to reach Kurianappally temple for he reception, instead of the Kulanada -Aranmula Road.
Before reaching Ayroor Puthiyakavu temple for halt on the first night, the procession will be given receptions at Kidangannur, Aranmula East Nada, Punnamthottam, Pampadimon and Cherukol. On the second day, the procession will be accorded receptions at Idappavoor, Idappavoor-Peroor, Vadasserikara, Madamon temple and Perunad Sree Dharma Sastha temple before halting at Laha Forest IB.
On the concluding day, the procession will pass by Plappally, Nilackal, Attathode and reach Valiyanavattom for halt at noon.
The procession, after leaving Valiyanavattom at 3 pm, will reach Saramkuthi at 5.30 pm. A traditional reception will be accorded here under the leadership of Sabarimala executive officer Mohandas.
After the reception, the procession will be received at Sopanam under the leadership of Travanacore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair and members Subhash Vasu and P K Kumaran. Deeparadhana will be held at 6.30 pm after adorning the attire in gold on the idol of Lord Ayyappa.
Devaswom Commissioner Visits Dam
Sabarimala: Devaswom Commissioner P Venugopal visited Kunnar water storage dam, the major water source to the Lord Ayyappa temple here, on Sunday. The visit was with the objective of studying the availability of water in the dam to meet the peak days of Makaravilakku season. The Devaswom Commissioner’s visit to Kunnar is at a time when the augmentation of storage capacity of the dam is in the final stages of implementation.
