The political climate in the state is quite favourable for the UDF and the Front would definitely gain an upper hand in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, said Home Minister and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala here on Monday.
Briefing mediapersons on the assessment of a meet of KPCC and DCC office-bearers, Ramesh said that UDF and Congress will fight the elections unitedly and the meet has decided to activate on poll mode.
“The LDF remains distanced from the people. The factionalism and decay in the CPM keeps growing. That is the reason on why all the agitations organised by the CPM and its feeder organisations had failed. After each stir, the graph of CPM and LDF had gone down,” the meet noted.
“CPM and LDF were not able to raise any people’s issues or attempted to solve it,” Ramesh pointed out. He said that the probable list of Congress candidates for Lok Sabha polls will be finalised once the talks with the coalition parties are over. Ramesh said that a new president for the state Congress unit will be announced soon. “The Chief Minister and myself will be in New Delhi on January 9 and hold discussions with Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
“The Congress plenary session, scheduled for February, will be held under the new KPCC president,” he said. Ramesh said that the meet decided to go ahead with programmes announced under the DCCs, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
“The reorganisation of DCCs and vehicle jathas under the DCC presidents will be carried forward as per plan,’’ he said. ‘’The Congress in the state is united and ready to face the polls. 2009 will be repeated,” he said, referring to the landslide victory of the UDF candidates then. When pointed out that CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had been repeatedly stating that 2004 will be repeated, in which the LDF swept the Lok Sabha polls, Ramesh quipped that it will remain as a big dream of the former.
On the critical reference made by former Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Ramesh visiting Pinaryi Vijayan and other CPM leaders after taking over ministership, he said that he is a minister of all sections of people and not of Congressmen alone.
