Getting An Insight into the Fascinating World of Science

The Infosys Science Foundation (ISF) in association with the Indian Red Cross Society organised a lecture on ‘The Fascinating World of Science’ at The Brook International School, Sasthamcotta, on Saturday. A Ajayaghosh, Senior Scientist, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), CSIR, Thiruvananthapuram, delivered the lecture attended by over 300 students from Classes VIII to XII.
The lecture was part of a programme aimed at promoting science and research while also inspiring young Indians to explore careers in scientific research.
The lecture by Ajayaghosh was part of the Infosys Science Foundation Lectures by jurors and winners of the Infosys prize. Ajayaghosh, a widely recognised Indian scientist, who did landmark work which advanced supramolecular chemistry, was the winner of Infosys Prize 2012 for the Physical Sciences category.The lecture commenced with an introduction to modern science, focusing on history, major discoveries and innovations along the way. Ajayaghosh also spoke to the students about the opportunities in sciences while using stories and animation to demystify the subjects for the young audience.
Addressing the audience, Ajayaghosh said,”Our understanding of science is continuing to evolve and everyday there are amazing new discoveries in the field”.
“The Indian Red Cross Society has been working towards empowering youth in rural regions through diversified programmes,” Mathew John, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, said.
