Short Story Award Distribution

Writer M Mukundan will give away the M P Narayana Pillai Memorial Short Story Award, instituted by ‘Samakalika Malayalam Varika’, a sister publication of The New Indian Express, at a function in Kozhikode on Saturday.

K Prajeesha of Malappuram, Ajijesh Pachatt of Parappangadi and Lasar Shine of Cherthala won the first, second and third places, respectively.

Novelist Punathil Kunhabdulla will inaugurate the function to be held at Hotel Alakapuri at 4 pm. Writer Kalpetta Narayanan will deliver the keynote address on the topic ‘Kathayil Sanmargamundo’ (Does fiction demand morality?)

Mukundan will release the book ‘Final Round’, a collection of 12 selected short  stories which were submitted for the M P Narayana Pillai Award on the occasion, by handing over a copy to P V Shajikumar. 

The book has been published by Mathrubhumi Books. Prajeesha, a third-year Computer Engineering diploma student at Thirurangadi Government Polytechnic, won the first prize for her story ‘Kanyam’. She will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a citation.
