Gowri Brought Social Change to State: VS

K C Vamadevan Award for the Best Trade Union and Social-political Worker was presented to JSS general secretary and former Minister K R Gowri.
Presenting the award here on Monday, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said that no words would be enough to describe Gowriamma who had contributed much to the state during the last seven decades.
He pointed out that Gowriamma, as an architect of the widely acclaimed Kerala Land Reforms Bill, had acted as a catalyst for social change in the state.
Remembering Vamadevan as a dedicated trade union leader, legislator and former Mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, VS said that the over five-decade-long political life of Vamadevan was full of sacrifices for downtrodden people.
In her reply speech, Gowriamma said that yesteryear politicians had dedicated their lives for the welfare of the people. She recollected that her own brother had to lead a miserable life when he worked for the Communist party.
Excise Minister K Babu presented the award for Best Volunteer Service to Pallium India chairman M R Rajago pal. Former Minister C Divakaran delivered the Vamadevan remembrance lecture.
K C Vamadevan Foundation chairman and former Minister N K Premachandran presided over the function.
