The applause and attraction the State School Youth Festival is receiving is just not enough for Keshavendra Kumar, Director, Higher Secondary Education. He is keen to make the festival a huge success, and elevate the entire concept to the national level.
Keshavendra Kumar, who is also the joint general coordinator of the Kalotsavam, said that in the upcoming meeting for reforming the festival manual, he would suggest formulation of a national Kalotsavam ahead of the State Kalotsavam of Kerala “so that every state would be able to participate.” “It will be great if our state youth fest is pitched into the national framework. Every state has its own traditional art forms, so if it’s made into a national fest, each state would be able to participate. This will provide more exposure to students,” he said.
He added that this would not be too difficult as almost every state already has some form of competition for students but the Kerala model is more comprehensive to emulate. “Our state secretary would have to write to other states to organise a national fest. We will make this suggestion and try to work out its modalities at the upcoming meeting for reformation of the festival manual,” he said. Kumar is of the opinion that the Kalotsavam should be put on the tourism map of Kerala.
