The CPM has decided to welcome rebel BJP leaders and activists under the leadership of O K Vasu and A Asokan to its fold.
Welcoming the rebels to the CPM, party district secretary P Jayarajan said on Friday that the leaders demonstrated “great courage” by quitting the BJP and severing ties with the RSS.
“BJP’s former district president O K Vasu and secretary A Asokan and hundreds of BJP workers who formed NaMo Vichar Manch, a rebel platform within the party a few months ago, have expressed readiness to join ranks with the CPM. The rebel BJP leaders, along with 2,000 activists, will formally join the CPM at a function to be held at the Panur High School ground on Tuesday. CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the programme at 5 pm,” Jayarajan said at a press meet here on Friday. Responding to a question, the CPM district secretary said that he did not believe that V S Achuthanandan was against giving party membership to the BJP rebels.
The decision to welcome the BJP rebels was taken after democratic discussions within the party at local committees and in the district committee.
The CPM leader also absolved the rebel leaders of all the alleged crimes committed against CPM workers. BJP-RSS groups had allegedly murdered 200 CPM workers in the state in four decades.
