4 SDPI Workers Held

The police have arrested four persons in connection with the attack on two CPM workers at Mangalam, near here, on Wednesday. All the arrested are SDPI acivists.

The police have arrested four persons in connection with the attack on two CPM workers at Mangalam, near here, on Wednesday. All the arrested are SDPI acivists.

E Majeed, 42, T Noufal, 27, Abdul Gafoor, 39, and Sabinoor, 28, were directly involved in hacking the CPM workers, the police said.

“We nabbed them from near the Chamravattom Regulator-cum-Bridge where they had been hiding. Four more persons are directly involved in the attack. The police are continuing the search for the rest of the culprits.

We have registered a case for attempt of murder against the four arrested persons,” said Tirur Inspector of Police Rafi.

Meanwhile, the SDPI admitted to the involvement of its members in the attack. SDPI Malappuram district vice-president and the media coordinator of the party, C G Unni, said that the attack was an emotional response of some local-level members of the party.
