Controversial Book: Court Orders Probe

The Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate  Court on Monday ordered the police to launch a  probe against Gail Tredwell, the author of ‘Holy Hell .

The Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate  Court on Monday ordered the police to launch a  probe against Gail Tredwell, the author of ‘Holy Hell: A Memoir of Faith, Devotion and Pure Madness,’ the company which published the book and several media organisations which published reports on the basis of allegations made by the author of the book.

The magistrate has asked the police to launch the investigation based on a petition filed by Sijith of Mamangalam. The Palarivattom police have been asked to probe the matter.

The police would launch a probe against three Malayalam news channels and two Malayalam dailies. The probe would be conducted against author Gail Tredwell and Wattle Tree Press. The court has also asked the police to launch a probe against Deepak Prakash, who had lodged a complaint with the Karunagapally police seeking a probe into the allegations made in the book, and against Jamaat-e-Islami, an Islamic outfit.

The petitioner had approached the court stating that the allegations were against Amritanandamayi Math without verifying facts and with the intention to disrupt communal harmony.
