Holes Found on Railway Track in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE:  Raising fears of possible sabotage, railway trackmen during an inspection on Friday found as many as 34 holes drilled on the railway track at Kundayithode here. Railway officials and local police, who inspected the track, have claimed that the holes were made deliberately.

However, City Police Commissioner A V George refused to term the incident as a sabotage bid.

The holes drilled on the track were four mm wide and approximately four mm deep. Kozhikode RPF officials informed that track men had found similar holes along the same stretch around 15 days ago. “The first set of holes were round and the new set is quite elongated compared to the first ones found few days back. It can be said that these holes were made deliberately,”said R Anilkumar, Kozhikode RPF, Inspector.

The railway track is not located in an isolated area and has quite a number of houses and shops in its vicinity.

“We are yet to find out what kind of equipment was used to drill these holes. If at all they had used drillers the people residing nearby would have heard some sound. People also regularly use this area and cross the track. But we cannot say for certain that it is sabotage attempt,” the Police Commissioner said.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said here that support from the state police, if required, will be provided for the investigation. “It is the Railway Protection Force that has to conduct the initial investigation,” he added.
