Work at Muttom Yard Halted Again

ALUVA: Metro Rail work at Muttom yard has again come to a halt on Saturday after two days of work under police watch.

The work was stopped after a confrontation between the trade unions erupted on the issue of employment in the piling sector in the yard.

The officials in the yard said that the work was stopped on doubts of the confrontation turning into violence. The incident has been reported to the District Collector, and the unions are assured of a meeting with the DMRC officials, said Anilkumar, secretary of District Nirmana Thozhilali Sangham.

He said that officials of the Kochi Metro as well as the DMRC and the Labour Commissioner have also been reported about the standoff. In case a solution is not found, the only option is to move court, he said.

The work has been stopped to prevent  violence between the trade unions but it will be soon sorted out with the help of the DMRC, and the work will be resumed on Monday, said a Shilpa Constructions official.
