Faction Feud Resurfaces in Thrikkakara Municipality

KAKKANAD:  The faction feud in the Thrikkakara municipality has resurfaced again, with  chairman P A Mohammed Ali announcing that KPCC president V M Sudheeran had issued a notice to District Congress Committee (DCC) president V J Paulose, directing him to remove Shaji Vazhakkala from the post of Municipality chairman.

“Sudheeran issued a directive to DCC president V J Paulose a few days ago, asking him to seek the resignation of Shaji and to appoint me as the chairman as agreed earlier,” said Mohammed Ali, adding that it was the duty of the DCC president to adhere to the KPCC president’s order. “No talk has been held with the DCC president in this regard, so far,” he said.

The ‘A’ Group councillors, supporters of Mohammed Ali, said that an understanding was reached at a meeting of the KPCC-appointed committee held at the District Congress Committee office on July 29. “At the meeting, it was decided that Mohammed Ali be given one more chance after three months, and also to elect Ajitha Thankappan of the ‘I’ Group as chairperson of the Public Works Permanent Standing Committee. Now, we want to implement the condition of the meeting,” they said.

Paulose said that he did not get any letter from the KPCC president. “If it was an urgent order, he would have talked to me over the phone. “But, I have not received any call from the KPCC office,” Paulose said. ‘I’ Group leader and Education Standing Committee chairman Varghese Paulose said that the information about the letter was a false propaganda by the ‘A’ Group leaders.

“There is no need for the existing chairman to resign. As per the rules, both Shaji and Mohammed Ali can hold the post for two-and-half years, and the latter has already completed his term,” Varghese added.
