Student Arrested for Moral Policing and Harassment

THALAASSERY: A 17-year-old school student, was arrested here on Monday on charges of moral policing on a couple. The couple hailing from Mahe was detained and harassed by the youth and his friend at Morakkunnu near Chirakkara here on November 1.

“A bank officer at Mahe and wife were on their way to a relatives’ house in a car. As they stopped the car owing to confusion in the route, the youth and his friend detained them and entered the car. They took photos of the couple and posted them on WhatsApp. Money and mobile phones were also stolen from them,” SI Surendran Kallayadan said.

The youths collected about `45,000 from the couple. The arrest was based on the complaint lodged at the Thalassery police station. The police could identify the accused easily because of his special hair style. The couple identified the accused at the police station on Monday.

The youth was produced before the Juvenile Court and the court granted him bail, the SI added. The first accused in the case is yet to be nabbed, the police added.
