SULTHAN BATHERY: A 54-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Karyampathi in the Chethalayath forest range under the South Wayanad forest division near here, on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Karyampathi Joy, a resident of Pathiri, a village located on the fringes of Chethalayath range.

The victim, along with his neighbour Chandran had gone to collect firewood inside the forest, around 6 pm, when the incident occurred. Though the duo ran in different directions upon seeing the rampaging elephant, only the latter managed to come out of the forests, the forest officials said. Forest and police personnel found the body around 7 am.
