Five Held with Gold at Airport

ALUVA: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Monday (DRI) arrested five persons with 500 gm of gold from the Nedumbassery airport.  The arrested, Bashir Ahammed, Naina Mohammed, Hakim, Iqshanullah and Mohammed Nisar Ahammed Ali, had concealed the gold in the rectum.  “Mohammed Nisar had arrived from Doha via Kozhikode, and was joined by the rest of the gang at the Kozhikode airport. It is learned that they concealed the gold inside their bodies at the Kozhikode airport, as planned in advance,” a DRI official said.   He said that the modus operandi was worrying, as smugglers had been taking  advantage of the fact that domestic passengers were usually not subjected to strict screening.

On Sunday, Customs officials at the Nedumbassery had foiled an attempt by Tiruchirappilly native Abdul Rahman to smuggle three gold chains weighing around 373 gm.
