Rahul R Nair Suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has placed IPS officer Rahul R Nair under suspension in an alleged bribery case.

Nair is accused of receiving Rs 17 lakh bribe from some quarry-owners while he served as Pathanamthitta SP.

He was serving as Malabar Special Police Commandant at the time of suspension.  The suspension order, signed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, followed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau registering an FIR against the official.  A preliminary probe by the VACB had earlier found that the official was guilty prima facie.

Rahul is arraigned as the first accused in the case and his accomplice Ajith Kumar who received the money for the officer is the second accused. VACB SP R Sukesan will conduct the investigation.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered ADGP (Crimes) S Ananthakrishnan to probe into Rahul S Nair’s ‘revelation’ to the VACB team that ADGP R Sreelekha and Thiruvananthapuram Range IG Manoj Abraham pressurised him for allowing the reopening of some quarries.
