Two More Held in PDS Rice Seizure

KOLLAM:The East Police on Saturday arrested two more persons in connection with a case in which 300 sacks of ration rice was transported illegally. The arrested have been identified as Shan, 33, and Sudheer, 32, of Valathungal. The police had earlier arrested Baiju, 35, of Ernakulam, who drove the lorry carrying the ration rice.

According to the police, the lorry carrying 300 sacks of ration rice, each sack weighing around 50 kg, was seized from Taluk Junction here the other day. U P Vipin Kumar, Sub- Inspector of East police station said that the arrested were engaged in bogus billing and illegal procurement of ration products meant for public distribution.

 The police had earlier hinted that godowns operating in Eravipuram, Parippally and Pallimukku were found involvement in the procurement of ration rice. Vipin Kumar hinted that more arrests would follow in the coming days as investigation progresses.
