Bar scam haunts Kerala's UDF as wedding bells ring for Adoor Prakash’s son

Kerala is all set to witness a high-profile wedding on Sunday when former minister Adoor Prakash’s son and hotelier Biju Ramesh’s daughter tie the knot.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is all set to witness a high-profile wedding on Sunday when former minister Adoor Prakash’s son and hotelier Biju Ramesh’s daughter tie the knot.

With the engagement ceremony held in June itself triggering a controversy, the wedding is being keenly followed by the political fraternity. The situation has left at least some Congress/UDF leaders exasperated.

While a majority says there is nothing wrong in attending the marriage as Prakash is a Congress leader, others are yet to make up their minds, largely due to the controversies surrounding Biju Ramesh and the bar scam.    Meanwhile, political circles are curiously waiting for V M Sudheeran to divulge his stand. Sudheeran is the only UDF leader who has openly criticised party leaders who attended the engagement ceremony.

While it is almost certain that many UDF leaders would be attending the marriage function, Sudheeran is most unlikely to attend.

Despite Biju Ramesh dealing a big blow to the Congress and the UDF with his stance on the bar bribery scam, many Congress/UDF leaders think there is nothing wrong in attending the marriage.   When the engagement ceremony was held, Sudheeran’s open remarks had evoked criticism from both the ‘I’ and ‘A’ factions in the Congress.

The KPCC president had said that party leaders should not have attended the function as Biju Ramesh was the person who had pushed the UDF Government into a crisis. According to him, though it was a private function, party leaders had sent a wrong message to the people by attending it. Further, he urged the leaders to be judicious in such matters.

The ‘I’ and ‘A’ factions shot off letters to the High Command against Sudheeran for publicly criticising the senior leaders who attended the ceremony.    “Hopefully, Sudheeran would not take a hostile stand this time,” said sources.   Biju Ramesh had accused former Finance Minister K M Mani and Excise Minister K Babu of accepting bribe. He had levelled similar allegations against Ramesh Chennithala and V S Sivakumar too.
