KOCHI: AAP leader and Delhi MLA Somnath Bharti on Friday called demonetisation of high denomination currency notes the “biggest scam the country ever saw.”

“The move is a scam which amounts to `8 lakh crore. It was a ploy to write-off loans worth the amount,” alleged Bharti, who was here as part of AAP’s campaign to strengthen the party’s base in South Indian states.

In his volley of attacks, Bharti targeted the SBI for writing-off corporates’ loans worth `7,000 crore and wondered why loans by farmers and middle-class families were not being written-off similarly.

He also alleged that the demonetisation move helped PM’s friends, crony capitalists and partymen convert their black money to white, even as daily wagers, farmers, government servants and others were hit hard.
He demanded that PM Narendra Modi should come clean on his association with Reliance Jio and PayTm, the advertisements of which featured his image.

He also blamed Modi for the death of 50 people post demonetisation. The former Delhi Minister did not spare the Congress, accusing it of hobnobbing with BJP on matters of corruption.

“Rahul Gandhi claims to have proof of Modi’s corruption but does not divulge it. Congress is actually soft on BJP due to the Augusta Westland scam, which haunts it,” he said.

Only Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal opposed demonetisation since the beginning and AAP was the only party that educated people on it, he said.

“As a person in charge of party affairs in South India, I will tour the states and campaign against demonetisation,” said Bharti, who was accompanied by Delhi Minister for Food and Supply Imraan Hussain here.
