Youth's Murder: Wife's 'Illicit Affair' Surfaces

KOZHIKODE:  An alleged extramarital affair between a 31-year-old woman and her nephew led to the murder of a youth who was found dead at Rubber plantation in Balussery near here, on December 21. The police arrested four persons, including the duo, in connection the murder.

The Balussery police, who had identified the body as that of Pilathottathil Rajan, nabbed four persons in connection with the murder. The arrested are Rajan’s wife Sheeba Rajan, of Narikuni, nephew Meethil Libin, 27,  and his friends Kizhakkekurumboyil Anandan, 43, and Purayil Vipin, 22,  all of Balussery.

The murder story of Rajan, 44, has all the elements of an illicit relationship as the accused woman Sheeba was allegedly into extra-marital affair with Libin. The husband was aware of their growing intimacy and abused the woman for this, police said.

Libin and Sheeba, with the help of their friends, planned and executed the murder as the duo feared their affair would blow up in their face, police said during a press briefing at Balussery.

Police said that Libin’s friends had a drinking session with Rajan at the rubber estate before they attempted the murder.

Following the session,  Nideesh allegedly whacked Rajan unconscious and carried him to another place where they burnt his face to destroy the identification of the body.

The investigating team led by Thamarassery DySP cracked the case with the help of the cyber cell. The police said that Rajan’s phone has been out of reach for over a week  and that became the vital lead in this case.

The incident came to light when rubber tapping workers noticed the body lying at the plantation at Kinaloor near Balussery on Monday morning.
